CitrusTV honored senior Wes Purvis with its Lifetime Achievement Award at the station’s annual alumni and awards banquet on April 16. The evening also included alumna Kim Brown of NewsChannel 9 as the banquet’s keynote speaker.

CitrusTV’s two live shows have made station history this semester, and it was as easy as a video call on Skype.
CitrusTV News and Orange Press Pass both have had reporters “Skype in” to live shows on the Orange Television Network. Using a laptop with Skype in the absence of a costly and complicated live remote ENG truck, CitrusTV has been able to broadcast reporters from around campus and across the country.
Orange Press Pass, Syracuse’s only live post-game television show after men’s basketball games, brought in reporter Eva Zaccaria ‘10 live from Washington D.C’.’s Verizon Center for a conversation with host Landon Stolar ‘10 after last week’s Georgetown game. Tonight, the show plans to bring in Amy Johnson ‘10 after No. 4 Syracuse takes on Providence on the road.
CitrusTV News, one of the only live campus newscasts in the country that airs three times a week, brought in Lorne Fultonberg ‘13, from the Whitman School of Management when Syracuse alum and Vice President of Retail at Apple, Jerry McDougal spoke there earlier in the semester.
This Friday, while students are camping outside the Carrier Dome for Saturday’s basketball game against No. 7 Villanova, CitrusTV News will have live reports from across the campus. Watch on channel 2 or at orangetv.syr.edu - or stop by in person. It may be no College GameDay, but it’s your station.
CitrusTV is in a state of celebration this week, after receiving the notification that two of its sports programs have moved on to the final judging round of the College Emmys. This nationwide competition, run by the Emmy Foundation, has selected episodes of CitrusTV’s On the Bench and ‘Cuse Countdown as “two of only six shows in the entire nation that are in the final ‘blue ribbon round’” of the sports/newscast category, said the station’s general manager, Ryan Balton.
“Everyone is extremely excited about this special honor,” Balton continued, and they have good reason to be. Winners of the College Television Awards are presented with as much as $2,000 in prize money, as well as free film stock, educational software, and the opportunity to pitch their show to a development executive.
“The fact that two of our sports shows made it to the final round is something the entire station should be proud of,” said Amy Johnson. Johnson, along with Scott Grodsky, was the executive producer for one of the advancing shows. “It says a lot about our station and our department.” Balton echoed this sentiment, saying, “the honor represents more than just excellence by one producer, show or department. It represents excellence station-wide.”
The Emmy Foundation will announce the winner and the recipient of the College Emmy on February 26, but until then, as Johnson put it, “all of the producers are just really excited…to see how everything turns out.”

When Jerk Magazine was banned from distributing in Graham Dining Hall over two weeks ago, CitrusTV News was first to report the story. We then continued to follow the story as it developed. We’re proud to announce that, due largely in part to our hard-hitting coverage, Syracuse University policy has been changed. Nancy Cantor today announced that a long-standing rule allowing only certain campus publications to be distributed in dining halls has been revoked. Now, all publications can be distributed. CitrusTV News will be sure to bring you the latest information regarding this huge step forward in student rights here on campus.
Also important to note is that The Daily Orange, SU’s independent student newspaper, took over two weeks to report the story. Case in point, CitrusTV News is dedicated to delivering student news faster and in more detail than any other student news media organization on campus. Is The Daily Orange your newspaper? Possibly.
