CitrusTV Travels – Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Thursday, Mar 19, 2009 at 2:40 pm by admin

Before the craziness of the BIG EAST Tournament and NCAA tournament, Syracuse finished off the regular season with a trip to Marquette.

The confidence streak for the Orange started at the Bradley Center where Syracuse pulled out an overtime victory against a top-15 opponent.

For the CitrusTV crew on hand, it was especially rewarding.

For reporter Shannon Lins ’11, it was a homecoming. A Wisconsin native and Badgers fan his entire life, he thought it was a thrill to be present at the game.  “It was an amazing opportunity to sit in the front row with the media and see the Orange win in my home state,” said Lins.

Perhaps the best story of the game happened during the interview session in the locker room.

Rick Jackson hit two free throws at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. When photographer Mike Lefko ’11 asked Jackson about it, Coach Boeheim had a little fun with the answer. Boeheim walked in and said, “Oh he was scared out of his mind. I don’t know how that went in, he knuckled it in.”

“I asked Rick the question and he pauses and is looking at something,” said Lefko. I thought he was just thinking about the quetion, but it was just really Coach Boeheim going crazy throwing his hands all over the place.”

Before a home match up with historic rival Johns Hopkins, Syracuse traveled down to our nation’s capital for a

date with Georgetown. It was the second game of a tough early season stretch which included Virginia and JHU.

Since it was the start of spring break,  it was a welcomed journey to a place with a bit warmer weather and the presence of sun.

Syracuse didn’t put forth it’s best effort, but came a way with a victory none-the-less. But the real fun happened off the field.

The CitrusTV crew traveled to DC with the WAER broadcast team and the entire group enjoyed walking around the Georgetown campus, the National Mall and even an impromptu trip to College Park, Md.

Although everyone was tempted to stay down there and finish up their degrees, everyone made it back to Syracuse (I think!) with the hope that spring is on the way.
