For the Syracuse men’s basketball team, the amount of home games on the season is calculated by adding the games in the Carrier Dome plus the game(s) at Madison Square Garden. At the end of February, the Orange traveled down to MSG for a match up with St. Johns.

Beth Ann Clyde ’09 (reporter) and Doug Whitehorn ’10 (photographer) were on hand to witness one of SU’s more dominating performance of the season in a blowout win.

‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ is a home-away-from-home for Syracuse, but it was a bit of a homecoming for our CitrusTV crew. Clyde is from New Jersey and Whitehorn resides in Long Island.

“It was definitely a fun game to watch,” said Clyde. “Not to mention, as a Knicks fan, it was really fun to get to go on the court at Madison Square Garden after the game.”

After two home games, Syracuse heads up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mike Lefko ’11 and Shannon Lins ’11 will be on hand to wrap up the regular season.

What follows is a  return trip to Madison Square Garden for the BIG EAST Championship and then hopefully on to the NCAA tournament for the first time in three years.

SUper Sports – Hockey Style

Sunday, Mar 8, 2009 at 10:11 am by admin

After 3 volleyball and 3 basketball games, the SUper Sports crew took the equipment to the ice for a weekend of hockey on February 20 and 21.

The opponent was St. Anselm, a division III school from New Hampshire. Friday night’s game took place at Tennity Ice Pavilion on the campus at Syracuse. On Saturday we ventured downtown to the Onondaga War Memorial – the home of the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Outside the War Memorial

The War Memorial provided us with the greatest logistical challenge of any site. There wasn’t an elevator to the press box and the space was very tight up in the catwalk. It took a great deal of preparation and extra heavy lifting by our ‘morning crew’ to make sure we were set up and ready to go.

All things considered, it was a great experience to work in a professional building and experience some of the hardships of working in an old arena first hand. It’s probably not something to do again, but at least we can say we tried it once.

Plus, it’s always nice to cover a winning team. The ladies won both games extending their winning streak at the time to 6 games. Not bad for the team’s first ever season!

After a 5 weeks off — including a week for spring break — the SUper Sports crew will be back at it for 2 more games. WLAX on March 27 and April 11 inside the Carrier Dome.
