Since the video was posted on YouTube Sunday night, it has been viewed over 27,618 times. The majority of those views are coming from a Sports Illustrated blog where the clip was named the “Sports Video of the Day.” The video also landed itself a spot on a variety of other blogs, including one on Syracuse.com.
If you haven’t already seen the greatest thing on the Internet since the Harry Potter Puppet Pals, watch the video below, along with another hilarious clip from the game captured by CitrusTV’s ops man Wes Purvis.
Update @ 1:43 a.m., Feb. 19: The “Syracuse Welcomes Georgetown Fans” video is now the top “popular” video on YouTube.
So if you ever think about complaining about the location of SU ever again, just take a trip to UCONN.
Talk about middle of nowhere.
You think is Marshall Street is bad? UCONN students would die for the opportunity to eat pizza at four different places.
Operations Manager Wes Purvis ‘10 and I took a trip to Storrs not for our own enjoyment, but for the purpose of covering the Syracuse men’s basketball team on the road. Ever since we started this ‘CitrusTV Travels’ segment on the blog, the Orange hasn’t won a game away from the Carrier Dome.
Coincidence? I sure hope so.
The biggest thrill of the trip was that the game was at Gampel Pavilion - an 8.000 seat arena right in the heart of campus (UCONN also plays games at the XL Civic Center). Nothing can compare to 31,000 screaming fans at the Carrier Dome, but if Syracuse ever builds a basketball only facility, I hope it’s like Gampel.
Next up for the Orange is a trip to it’s home away from home - Madison Square Garden vs St. Johns.
Four days before classes started this semester, 11 brave souls trekked back to snowy Syracuse to tape the 8th annual Lacrosse Preview Show.
Below is a video shot in glorious High Definition showing some of the lighter moments from the shoot. The video is large, please be patient while it loads.
In this video: Beth Ann Clyde ‘09, Tim Swartz ‘09, Ben Youngerman ‘09, Andrew Africk ‘10, David Resnick ‘10, Jon Erwin ‘10, Amy Johnson ‘10, Sheetal Kotha ‘10, Wes Purvis ‘10, Doug Whitehorn ‘10, Anne McNamara ‘11
The 8th Annual Lacrosse Preview Show is now available for your viewing pleasure.
Remember how I said we should stay away from the women’s basketball team at home? Maybe we should also stay away from the men’s basketball team on the road.
Once again, the sports department followed the team down to a new location - this time to Philadelphia, PA and Wachovia Center. The opponent was Villanova. Luckily SU will get another crack at the Wildcats at home.
Ben Youngmerman ‘09 and Doug Whitehorn ‘10 watched SU drop another one on the road.
“I’ve been to the arena many times before as a fan,” said Youngerman. “It was a great experience to go this time as part of the media and be able to stand on the court and see a behind the scenes look. I even got to sit on the Flyers zamboni!”
Up next: Syracuse@ UCONN. Myself and Wes Purvis ‘10 will be on hand.
Here at CitrusTV, we’ve learned it’s no easy task putting together a play-by-play sports production. (It’s also no easy task over-undering cables for some of us… CAMERA TWO?)
As if the three cameras used in SUper Sports seem overwhelming, take a look at this article from The Atlantic about veteran football director Bob Fishman and the television magic that takes place every football game. About 20 cameras, 40 replay machines and six clones of Wes go into making an average production possible.
That number of cameras more than doubled for last Sunday’s Super Bowl, including the pre-game and halftime shows, when NBC aired the Super Bowl for the first time since 1998.
While we were watching the epic game, filling up on guacamole, laughing at TV’s most expensive commercials, scratching our heads at 3D’s comeback, waiting for the hour-long episode of The Office, and complaining about why NBC had to broadcast the center frame of the 16:9 HD broadcast instead of just letterboxing the game on our 4:3 screens (or was that just me?) … 14 mobile units, 14 office trailers, nine support trucks, three uplinks, five twin-unit generators, 50 feet of fiber-optic cable, 400 production and engineering personnel and 55 hi-def cameras were at work broadcasting the action from Tampa, according to this “SUper” cool article from Broadcasting & Cable.
I just want to know when the Carrier Dome is getting a Cable Cam. Is it wrong to be in love with a piece of camera equipment?
New news to pass along on the sport’s department expanding relationship with Inside Lacrosse.
First off, our video contributions have been a big hit. For the month of January, CitrusTV had 4 of the top 5 and 5 of the top 10 most viewed videos. The credit belongs to Anne McNamara ‘11, Jon Erwin ‘10 and Mike Lefko ‘11 - the three men’s lacrosse beat reporters.
The second bit of information is that throughout the NLL season, we will be doing freelance editing for NLLInsider.com - a partner of IL. From now until the middle of April, producers will be putting together the best goals and hits of the weekend.
While the editing experience is great, the major benefit is that the freelance work is a new source of revenue for the department. Traveling on the road to follow the Orange just got a bit easier.
