From Long Island, just outside New York City, the media capital of the world, Jared Mandel is very excited to continue his work on the executive staff of CitrusTV. As a Junior Broadcast Journalism student, Jared excelled both in front of and behind the camera. His strong passion for news gave him the drive to excel, and the motivation to lead the news department as News Director. He has held virtually every position behind the camera and CitrusTV, and has reported, anchored, and done weather for the news department, all in his first three semesters with CitrusTV.
Now Jared hopes to revamp CitrusTV's web and social media presence as CitrusTV's Web Media Director.
Jared is most proud of his accomplishments during his first year at the station, when he won awards for both "Best Reporter," and "Best Weather Forecaster," after being voted on by his peers.
Before coming to Syracuse, Jared interned for Alan Weiss Productions, and got a small spot on the nationally syndicated children's television show "Teen Kids News." Since beginning his studies at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, he has interned at News 12 Long Island, and worked his way up to help the morning show production staff; he even helped segment produce a week long morning show series called "Summer Shape Up" as part of the station's "12 Weeks of Summer" series.
Jared also interned at CNN with Piers Morgan Tonight and helped produce segments, pitch show ideas, cut video, and write blog posts for CNN.com.
When Jared is not in front of the camera, he can be found watching his favorite TV shows "LOST," "24," "The Office," "Modern Family," "30 Rock," and "Rock Center." Jared also enjoys skiing, and often travels out west to hit the slopes in the rockies.
